Beyoncé Revives Decadence with Act I: Renaissance

It’s been 6 years since Queen Bey released any solo efforts. When she announced on June 16th that she would be releasing her 7th album, I like the rest of the hive were ecstatic! Many wondered what musical direction she’d take on this project; she captured it all until now. On June 20th the single “Break My Soul” was released and it alluded that this album would capture the House music scene. The past 3 years have been quite depressing due to the pandemic, economic downturn and unfulfilled aspirations. I believe that Beyoncé Renaissance will revitalize R&B and Dance from the abysmal space that it has been. Beyonce hopes that this album encourages you to “wiggle”

As many of you know that my favorite era of music was the 70’s and early 80’s. During this time, Black, Latino and Queer communities were able to express themselves more freely with the advent of Disco, Hip Hop, Punk & House. The 50’s & 60’s were riddled with discrimination, assassinations of pivotal figures that left generational trauma. I would remiss not to mention the impact that music has on the healing and spiritual process of a resilient group of individuals.

The 16 track album will be released on July 29th! It will also host legendary features and samples from artist of the Disco and Dance Era. Featured producers include mainstays such as the Dream, No-ID and Pharrell just to name a few. I admire that the Queen is paying homage to those artists who innovated a genre that needs to be preserved. Based on the album liner notes they’ll be samples and appearance from legends such as Teena Marie, Grace Jones, Donna Summer and Twinkie Clark! I believe this will be her most exciting and experimental album yet. Peep the track list below!
